Dorade and the rest of the Classics Class at the NYYC Annual Regatta presented by Rolex kicked off the weekend with a coastal race on Narragansett Bay today.
“Today we were up the bay,” said Dorade Boat Captain Rasmus “Razz” Bregenhoj. “The start was at Halfway Rock and then there was a small beat up to Ghoul Island then up to Bristol and back down, with the finish also at Halfway Rock. We had one long race and then rainstorms started coming in.
“We had about 10 to 12 knots at the start and then it dropped down to the 7 knot range later on. We had to change from a smaller jib to a bigger jib halfway up the beat from Bristol to the finish line. All the crew work went smoothly today so it was a good day. The team sailed pretty well. We didn’t have the best start but we did ok.
“Tomorrow we have a front coming through, and it is going to be quite windy out of the west. So, it’s going to be a little different with the breeze coming off Jamestown. I’m not sure what they will do for us. Estimated breeze is between 17 and 25 knots, so it’s fairly windy for these older boats. Everybody is a little concerned about that but we’ll see how it goes.”
