We read about Dorade’s victory this summer, amidst all the craziness here at Camp. Everyone at Four Winds was pleased to hear that a Camp alum was doing so well.

The lyrics of the Dorade song that we sing at Camp are:
Dorade, I adore thee,
And I spend my summer happily,
Sailing on thee.
Billowing sails and a gusty breeze,
Sailing open the open seas,
How I love thee.
It’s really best sung in a round, and I’ve attached an mp3 of the campers singing it that way.
Camp never actually owned Dorade, Mike Douglas did. He was the Director, and leased the boat to Camp. So the boat was here roughly during his time as Director, from the early or mid 80s to the mid 90s, when Mike sold Dorade and Camp bought Carlyn. I could probably find the exact dates with a little research.
An Orcas local, Douglas Adkins, wrote a great history of Dorade, and there’s a chapter on Four Winds in it. You can read about it at www.doradehistory.com. You can buy the book there too, though it’s a limited edition and a little expensive. We picked up a regular edition copy for a more reasonable price for the Camp library when the book first came out, either of you are more than welcome to take a look if you visit Camp.
That’s the information I have off the top of my head. I’m happy to attempt to answer any questions if you have any!
