Sunday night / Monday morning, Dorade arrived by truck at the KKMI boatyard in Sausalito.
Dorade arrived in good order. She did not shift at all during the 3,000+ mile journey in her new shipping cradle designed by Greg Stewart of Nelson/Marek Yacht Design, Inc. and fabricated by Syd Janes.
Dorade rode smoothly across the country in five (5) days on the low height, “air-ride” transport trailer from the trucker, Tim Pyne. The only slight transport damage was minor wind damage from a canvass butterfly hatch cover that came loose and marred the varnish on the ” doghouse”, as well as the lifting-off of a minor amount of gold leaf on the transom when the protective plastic covering was removed.
At 7:30 AM PST, the crews at KKMI were readying to lift Dorade from her shipping cradle onto the hard, so that Ben, Laurel and the yard crew could immediately commence to re-step the masts and launch Dorade into San Francisco Bay, her old home waters.
