From Dorade Captain Ben Galloway:
Yesterday was a sunny day, which gave us a chance to air the boat out, wash some clothes and take a shower; it’s much more pleasant onboard now. At the same time, we still pushed the boat hard and gained some miles on the teams in front of us.
Last night we enjoyed some great downwind sailing. The sun was up by 4 a.m. and our fishing line was out at first light. It could be time to move the clocks forward now. We had a school of dolphins swimming around us for a while but the most interesting part of the morning was when a 30-foot whale knocked the side of Dorade’s hull. It had been heading in the opposite direction and I was down below making some breakfast as Zach shouted some words I can’t repeat. I ran up on deck fearing the worst, the whale was alongside the boat. We felt a thud as it dived off. The boat is fine and I think the whale will be ok, but probably a bit sore for a few days.
