Flashback to the Flood Era

Circa 1936, Dorade sails on San Francisco Bay.

In 1936, Olin Stephens sold Dorade to James Flood,, and the boat moved to a new homeport on the West Coast—San Francisco. Flood changed the boat’s sail number from 16 to 13, and raced Dorade on San Francisco Bay in preparation for the Honolulu Race in July, from Los Angeles to Hawaii.

Dorade leads the way off the starting line on the San Francisco City Front.

We recently came across these photos, two taken on the Bay and one, we believe, taken at the start of the Honolulu Race—now known as the Transpac.

Possibly taken at the start of the Honolulu Race, Transpac gets underway with her small jib.
