The rough cut out work on the stem has been completed, except for removing the bow sprit plug at the top of the photo. This will be removed when we have a better idea of how the new forestay tang will look.
You can see the first layers of Quick Fare going onto the cabin top. We have turned the corner and can start rebuilding. The cabin will be fared flat and then the plywood and canvas will be installed.
On the right side of the photograph, you can see some stress marking on the main boom around the filled holes. Once the varnish is removed we will know if it is deep or not and can repair if necessary.
The boom deflects when there is a reef in (also note the track pulling up!). There is discussion around main sheet bale locations or even possibly a redesign. It would appear from the photo that most of the deflection is closer to the camera than the area in the close-up photo – these areas of stress are likely from using a hard vang.
