The Transpacific Yacht Race from California to Hawaii is one of the most prestigious yacht races in the world. The race is held every other year and this afternoon the legendary sailing yacht Dorade sailed into Honolulu as the overall winner. The 52-foot boat was built in 1930 making it the oldest boat to ever compete in the Transpac. This isn’t the first time Dorade has won the prestigious title.
“Dorade finished and won the 1936 Transpac. 77 years later, here we are again. We had good wind, we had a great crew, we made the best of it,” said Dorade Captain Matt Brooks.
The boats set sail from Long Beach, California at different times. So although the first boats crossed the Diamond Head finish line yesterday, Dorade is considered to be the overall winner.
