Dorade Reuniting with its Original Burgee

The original blue burgee that flew on the Dorade during the 1931 Trans-Atlantic Race is currently undergoing conservation treatment at Riley Textile Conservation’s lab (RTC) in Oakland, California.
Hannah Riley, RTC Principal Conservator, remarked that, “Taking into account the effects of salt air, time, and moths, the 80+ year-old woolen artifact shows amazing integrity.”
RTC will pH test/neutralize, clean, and stabilize the Burgee before the reunion with its ‘old friend.’
