In general: great progress and team work, good coordination and communication between all parties involved. Lots of hard work going on these day on DORADE…
Brightwork Deck
How to best measure the progress? DORADE decks are now officially a “No Shoe Zone”, all blue protective foil is gone and shiny brightwork is emerging.
Everything went to plan – lots of meticulous prep work, finished with a complete “re-tape” of all brightwork. Also, all four dorade-boxes were completely strip and built the AWLwood from ground over its specific primer.
All brightwork received what could be the final coat today! A critically look at the results tomorrow after the cure and then decision will be made if a selected a few areas require a “better” final coat. All brightwork has between seven and nine coats of AWLwood on it. Certain this coming week some more detail work will be completed, but the lion share is done!
Spars
This area is also on track, the following pieces are finished with two good coats of Epifanes varnish: Mizzen Mast and both wooden Spinnaker Poles. The spars are stored appropriately until it is time to step the rig.
Both the mizzen and main boom received a few more built up coats and will get their first full coat mid-week, then the final coat hopefully next weekend.
The main mast was flipped and suspended, Shea (electrical / electronics) and Teak (bronze) are done with their work. Some additional prep work was required and then the complete mast received its first coat of varnished The plan is to have the main mast fully prepare again by the end of this coming week for its final coat next weekend.
All spreaders need to be prepared, varnished (underside) and painted (top) – this work will squeeze most if not all into this coming week – it is not that many hours but a lot of short steps and then waiting for paint to dry…
Interior
Not much progress this week except for taking the companionway landing out and back to Jens Lange’s Baltic Boat Works shop for “restoration”. Shea should be out of the boat by Tuesday, Jens, Nick and Myles will make a detailed plan on what areas need some TLC; prioritizing them and work thru the items.
Jens, Nick and Myles expect to be “banned” from the boat for at least two days this week due to painting of the waterways and the bottom. Nick will help Hannah to get gear from the off-site storage unit back to the boat.
