Jens has built some lovely wedges to support the mizzen mast at the deck partners. Two laminated blocks are carved to fit the deck cut out on their outer profile and the shape of the spar on their inner. Jens chose to craft these in teak. You can see the old spar butt laying on deck. The old spar got around this tricky bit of woodworking by not tapering the mast at the partners allowing for the wedges to be square on both their inner and outer profiles. The new spar design called for rounding at the partners. A mock up of the lower mast section was built so the wedges could be built in advance of stepping the spar.
