Yachting history was made on Sydney Harbour yesterday morning when four yachts designed by the legendary American Olin Stephens for his design firm Sparkman and Stephens, but from vastly different eras, came together for the first time.
Ranging in size from a huge, 45-tonne, 73-foot maxi yacht to a tiny 34-footer that was in danger of sinking on her mooring in the Brisbane River a few years ago, the boats sailed gently past the Sydney Opera House as part of their preparation for this year’s Rolex Sydney to Hobart race.

Dorade, now owned by San Franciscans Matt Brooks and Pam Rorke Levy, is probably the most famous ocean racing yacht in the world — having revolutionised American yacht design when she was launched in 1930.
Brooks and Rorke Levy spent a year totally restoring the yacht after they bought her in 2010 and have again sailed her in all the famous races she won in the 1930s.
