In an effort to visualize the proposed "jib stay" configuration, we mocked it up. At left are all three headstays in their proposed locations and approximate angles from the deck.
Shown above is the locust pin rail around the mast partners. The port and forward pieces appear to be original, or at least quite old. We are lining the holes with copper, flanged top and bottom. This will make a better fit for the belaying pins and will save the pin rail from unnecessary wear […]
Finding clear unchecked oak has proven to be difficult. Mount Hope Boatworks is on the second piece of oak for the stem and the third for the stern post. There was a mix up with the stern post, it was recreated in the form of the original, which turned out to be misaligned with the […]
Email to Mike Toppa (North Sails) from Nelson/Marek concerning sail configurations and analysis for each of the proposed masts Mike, Good to talk on Friday about all of the recent information RE the Dorade rig configuration. You are correct that we would like you to model sails for each of the following Rig configurations under […]
Jeff, Thanks for the drawings. I like the "Stormy Weather Type" on the right much better than the 1931 on the left. (Almost a 6 meter configuration.) The following are my few initial comments: 1. It is interesting to see how close the Stormy Weather Type geometry is to what I proposed. The Spreader/Diamond heights […]
Today was a landmark day. The new engine has been delivered and now rests on deck. The goal is to have it hanging in place on Monday so that we can measure for the engine support structure. The engine is a 30 HP Yanmar with a V-Drive. The shaft will exit on the port side.
Date: December 22, 2010 Design No. 07-C1 Dear Matt, Since the decision to build a new mast was made, I have been working with the S&S design team researching, analyzing and assessing the rig configuration options for Dorade as you requested. We have spent quite a bit of time going back through the S&S archives […]
UPDATE FROM GREG STEWART DORADE Team, Much has been done since the Mast Conference call last week. Jeff and Jason from S&S and I talked earlier this week to review the DORADE 1931 and 1936 Masts and concluded that the DORADE 2011 Mast should follow on from the 1936 Mast pending sailmaker feedback. Following this […]
The port scupper through hull needs to move to make space for the engine. Shown is the inside of the scarf that fixes the hole. The glue will be cleaned up before painting.[nggallery id=14]
Shown above is the current thinking for the "offshore" lifeline set. By offshore rules, they are double lifelines and must have a bow pulpit and pushpit. Stanchions must be 2 meters or less apart. A single lifeline set would be put in for inshore and at the dock. Note that the bow pulpit would be […]
The photo above shows the proposed electronics configuration for ocean passages. Most of the electronics would be on the mizzen mast where they can be easily removed, so preserving Dorade
