“Dorade sailed very well in the race this weekend, and I received numerous comments, including from Dennis Conner, on how well she sailed the course,” said 2017 Yesteryear Regatta Chairman Greg Stewart. Stewart, a naval architect has been working with Dorade since 2007 and he has also been frequent crew member aboard her. “For this year’s regatta we secured a fleet of 31 boats, racing in six classes. The conditions were perfect for all the boats and there was a nice mixing of boat types in the results.”

The Sparkman & Stephens Perpetual Trophy is a block, donated by Olin J. Stephens II, from the 1937 J-Boat Ranger, which Stephens co-designed with Starling Burgess. Ranger owner Harold Vanderbilt gave this block to Olin in the fall of 1937 as a token of thanks for a very successful season of racing. Ranger is known as the greatest J-Boat to be built, with a short but very successful racing career.

Next up on the team’s calendar is the SoCal 300, which starts May 29th in Santa Barbara, followed by the Newport Beach Wooden Boat Festival, June 10. From there the yacht will ship to Australia to kick start their “Dorade Down Under” Campaign.
